There was a lot of anticipation/excitement (depending on who you cheer for), leading up to the expansion draft trade/waiver freeze that happened on July 17th.
Here’s a recap of all the trades that took place in the past week.
July 12th

Talks of this trade, or one where Keith would end up in the Pacific Northwest or Western Canada, had been happening for a few weeks.
The Oilers also take on Keith’s full salary of $5.5M AAV for the next 2 seasons.
July 14th

July 15th

A lot of Avalanche fans knew this trade was coming so that the team could protect 7F-3D for the expansion. They also shed some money off the cap, with 4 main contracts to sign.
July 16th

The Islanders shed Leddy’s $5.5M AAV and only take on half of Panik’s original salary as the Red Wings retained half.
July 17th aka Deadline Day

Kořenář was a necessary return in this trade so that the Coyotes would meet the exposure requirements for the protection list.

Dickinson was likely to have been taken by Seattle in the expansion draft, so the Stars at least got some value in return this way.

The Leafs originally acquired Hållander in the Kasperi Kapanen trade last season, so it’s not that much of a loss if they can keep McCann after the expansion draft.

A fun three-way trade! The Flyers have been looking for a defenceman, and are also rumored to be in the mix for Seth Jones, but do take on Ellis’ $6.25M AAV towards their cap.
