Last night the NFL dropped its 2020 NFL schedule. The impact of the coronavirus still has fans cautiously optimistic that this year’s season will start on time. Whether fans will be present for these games or not, the slate of primetime games is definitely something to look forward to. Here’s our predictions on the best matchups:
Week 1: Texans at Chiefs (TNF)
The season is gonna start off in Kansas City with the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs raising their banner for the first time in 50 years. The Texans faced off against the Chiefs in the divisional round of the playoffs last season. Houston went up 21-0 in the first quarter, but Kansas City completed their largest comeback in franchise history and won with a score of 51-31. The Texans saw a key departure in the DeAndre Hopkins trade to the Cardinals back in March, so seeing how they’ll bounce back against the defending champs is sure to make great television.
Week 3: Chiefs at Ravens (MNF)
The Chiefs come in twice on this list and that should come as no surprise. Patrick Mahomes is one of the most entertaining players to watch in the NFL along with the quarterback he’ll battle against in this game: Lamar Jackson. The Super Bowl MVP and the NFL MVP facing off under the lights in Baltimore is a must-watch game. The Ravens are looking for redemption after their unexpected loss to the Tennessee Titans in the divisional round of the last season’s playoffs and the Chiefs are looking to defend their title against one of the best teams in the league.
Week 8: Cowboys at Eagles (SNF)
When making this list, one of the best rivalries in football is hard to ignore. There is no love between Philadelphia and Dallas and every time a new season rolls around it is becoming more and more difficult to predict how either of these teams will perform. Both of these teams had a solid draft, with Dallas adding some bigtime playmakers and the Eagles adding speed and depth at their weakest position (wide receiver). The Eagles are the reigning NFC East champions and this mid-season matchup should be very telling on if they’ll be able to defend this title.
Week 9: Saints at Buccaneers (SNF)
The reasoning behind picking this game should be pretty obvious. Tom Brady vs Drew Brees is already an amazing matchup, but now with Brady down in Tampa Bay, this game has a completely different feel to it. This will be the second time these two teams meet and with it happening past the midway point of the season there will most likely be some sort of playoff implications on the line. Not to mention 2015 number 1 overall draft pick and previous Buccaneers’ quarterback Jameis Winston will be back on his former home field, which is sure to cause some tension. Fans are setting high expectations for Brady in Tampa Bay and if he fulfills or exceeds these expectations, this could be one of the best games of the season.
Week 16: Vikings at Saints (TNF)
It would be really hard to make this list and not include the game on Christmas night in New Orleans. The final Thursday Night Football game of the year is one that you don’t want to miss. The last few seasons have created some tension between these two teams. The Minneapolis Miracle in 2018 and the infamous push-off by Kyle Rudolph as he caught the game-winning touchdown in last season’s wild-card round still have Saints fans grieving over what could have been. Also, the new 7-seed playoff format could mean that either of these teams will be fighting for a playoff spot or better playoff seeding. Regardless, this game is one to watch.
